I've got a huge soft spot for Alfred Ashford and I would never send anyone an ask saying "why do you hate alfred ashford :/" because I would use my brain and determine they probably hate Alfred Ashford because of the whole being a fucked up guy running a concentration camp and hunting people for sport and elaborately torturing people and also the fact the people he hunts for sport include one very beloved character and he just generally comes across as a creepy weirdo

if I saw someone hating on him I'd think "yeah sure he did [all that stuff I listed] but I don't care he's my silly little guy and probably wouldn't have done it if he wasn't born into a fucked up family that groomed him into being like that" and then proceed to keep that in my thoughts only and just scroll past the post because who gives a shit man. Alfred did awful things that's an objective fact I can't argue with, and I also can't judge someone for thinking they're awful enough that the mitigating circumstances shouldn't apply because who fucking cares he's a fictional character. irl I like to see the good in people and think the vast majority of people can change and almost no one is completely beyond redemption and thinking otherwise is actively harmful but for FICTIONAL CHARACTERS who cares man. someone else hating Alfred and thinking he's evil and beyond redemption isn't harming anyone in the real world. and me thinking 𝚔𝚛𝚊𝚞𝚜𝚎𝚛 is horrible and inherently shitty and beyond redemption also isn't incompatible with my beliefs because bitch ain't real. he's a character intentionally written to be shitty and not have any sort of redemption, the real world is different because there isn't someone pulling the strings and creating people that are inherently shitty and will never be anything else because they're custom tailored to fulfill a narrative role.

hating a villain should not be controversial someone disliking a villain that you like is not a personal attack on you and is not a confusing viewpoint that needs elaboration. (I don't think that liking a villain should be controversial either for the record but that ain't what this post is about. I've never in my life gotten shit for liking a villain but disliking one villain has gotten me shit on multiple occasions like it's not even confusing??)

targnation aka tb/dany(/arya) people who will genuinely honest to god argue that nettles is valyrian & daemon’s daughter bc only valyrians can ride dragons & really disingenuously misunderstand every point you make about how few good options a lot of the people on tg had.

the starkcels, infamous for being staunch jonsa shippers and/or sansa qitn truthers/stans, & they are all hardcore tg-but-usually-specifically-alicent stans. these people never stop BITCHING and NITPICKING, with the worst of it very much directed at being disingenuous about rhaenyra & baela’s motivations, in a very *dakota johnson voice* ellen you know that’s not true, sort of way.

(there’s other radioactive flavors, we don’t need to get into the aegon ii/king jon-or-stannis types on reddit, for instance).

and the problem here is that i call that second group my home bc it is a break off from the Main Branch which is very hostile to jonsa & associated theories, and therefore a lot of the most intensely starkcel people (such as me 😁) congregate there

(which, bizarrely to me, the Main Branch consists of largely tg/dany stans IF they watch the show seriously, if they don’t watch the show well that’s just main branch & it takes a second longer rant to explain that one but all of these groups are very hostile to starkcels & tbf starkcels are incredibly hostile to them aksjd). i Do believe i get the worst of both worlds as i try to exist in multiple subfandoms, altho i’m sure people at other intersections in fandom will disagree (they’re wrong i have it worse).

and this is a fandom just WILDLY HOSTILE to comparisons. u even think the words “sansa & ned are a little similar” and u get tomatoes thrown at you and that’s just her FATHER. i saw a minor meltdown on two different websites bc someone called margaery “the little queen” when “well that’s DAENAERA’S TITLE” brother no character owns a phrase or archetypes, and george’s style is basically just writing the same 12 archetypes that he really enjoys and doing them slightly to the left each time and as someone who loves doing that (there’s so many things to say!!! so many ways it can go if you just tweak one thing!!!!!) this series is crack to me, but if u dare compare two characters that have a different group of stans, even if those characters dead ass have the exact same life on paper, they try to execute you in the town square. so we just ignore the sansa-rhaenyra and rhaenyra-catelyn parallelism even tho it’s very obvious to me, bc it is apparently an insult to george himself to compare two characters he wrote 🤧

about strabo and vesta, I think something very interesting happens to them, because vesta has her own family issues (her father is a dick to her and her sisters, and their dynamic is very dysfunctional), but vesta HATES her father. she dislikes him so so so much, he made her and her sisters feel like trash. so vesta simply can't get why strabo cares so much about his father. when they meet, the man have already died, and strabo lives alone, so I think only later on their relationship she would discover about everything that happened. and still, I think that at first, he just told her his father died, and she felt bad for him. but slowly strabo would tell the most HORRIFYING things about his childhood. and vesta genuinely doesn't get it. honestly, she can't get it, she can't get him, specially because I think strabo defends his father with tooth and nails. so when she tries to tell him that his father sucked, and what he went through was abuse (because as someone outside of the situation, and someone with a father that's an asshole, vesta could see how bad his situation was), it always leads to arguments because he starts to DEFEND his father and it drives her insane that he CAN'T even admit that that man hurt him so much. they ended up stopping to talk about the subject in general because of how much it stresses them both, and she knows she won't be able to change him regarding this. I also think she tried to at least convince him to go after the twins, to try to reconnect, but I think strabo is way too proud to try to go back to talk to them after everything he did and said (even if it hurts him sm to just think about them)

(on the other hand, I think it would be an even more interesting situation if we go by a scenario where his father didn't die and stayed alive... because the twins would definitely cut contact, but strabo wouldn't, and it drives her completely crazy. she just worries so so so much about him because it doesn't matter how much he tries to go by this cold image, she knows he cares, she knows he gets hurt, and the worst is that she knows he will keep coming back bc in the end the trauma bonding was just way too strong)

oh my god, abt the unpopular opinions on the districts (also NOT THAT THEORY ☠️☠️☠️ thg fandom always on the crime scene with the worst takes known to men):

this is something more recent that started to annoy me more with sotr, but it drives me insane how ppl started to portray D12 tributes as some sort of "chosen ones" because now apparently snow has a beef with the whole district (as if D12 didn't have plenty of issues already in tbosas). ofc lucy gray is covey, and her culture is covey and not district, but nobody in the fandom takes that into account and UGH it really annoys me so much the takes that surround this;

there are some districts that are so so so obvious that SC doesn't know what to do with, like D9, D5 and D6, and I feel a bit bad for them (D9 in specific is struggling so bad because there's NOTHING we know abt this district, NOTHING);

I already mentioned before, but she's so biased towards D4 that I'm actually surprised we didn't get a prequel set on it (god please don't manifest this);

the career districts are fascinating, but SC simply seems like she doesn't know what to do with them at all sometimes, and to me it got even more clear in sotr;

the districts and panem are so so so interesting, but I feel like SC is simply not the best at worldbuilding and it shows. whenever she has the opportunity to go deeper into worldbuilding a district or panem, she simply throws it away (tbosas was very interesting bc it expanded the capitol, and brought new informations abt D2, but otherwise I feel like she kinda doesn't care much abt the worldbuilding). also, I know I'm not expecting a writer of a YA book to be a master in urbanism, but it bothers me the lack of cities and divisions inside the districts. D12 is valid because it's so tiny, it's 10k people, but there are others that are simply too hard for me to imagine how they would work in the same model.

abt the rec, omg grace I was lovinggggg the first book!! 🥺 I think i stopped around page 150 (I think after rin had a talk with the strategy master), but I paused it to read sotr and that book made me so annoyed and upset I have been struggling a bit to pick it back, but I promise I will because it was so interesting and well written!!! (I was having so much fun at the start bc the exam rin went through reminded me of the same one I had to go through to get into public uni, so 😔) I'm still at the start, but currently I LOVE kitay (my SON, he's such a cutie), i'm extremely curious about altan because everything surrounding him is such a mystery and so interesting (tho since he didn't appear much, I don't have really an opinion formed yet) and LOVEEEE RIN SO MUCH! Well first there's the ahaha they're both blue in the dream world that my cracktheory is based on but also when u start looking at the nightmare creatures you actually get more parallels

Both of them are entangled w the nightmare king n the other nightmare creatures in a way the other characters aren't (night hunter is an outlier n should not be counted)

For lunia spoilers but she basically created the nightmare king n by extension all the nightmare creatures we don't know what she thinks about the creatures but the nightmare king was her best friend

And for logan well who does the nightmare king decide to manipulate to get what he wants? Him he's the person that starts befriending the creatures (well mostly sneak) instead of beefing on sight

He's the one they use to spy on the others n he basically turns into a monster which it's not really clear what he turns into but based on the others reactions when they first see his transformation I'd say he probably resembles a nightmare creatures to some extent

And then there’s this B-rank nobody (to him) who specifically hired Shin Junseo - as a D rank weapon creator who could only make an average knife every 20 seconds - BC HE HAD A SKILL THAST DESTROYED THE BLADES HE USED. Literally the same reason!! But no, somehow Yun Taeheon is losing this race.

Even better if he somehow gets more backstory or through some time shenanigans he meets the other Mun Doyun, who is basically the reason Shin Junseo is even as good as he is. Like, the reason sjs learned all he could and stuff. Anyway, yth being objectively, obviously on a higher level than this dude and yet still absolutely seething at the very idea of how much he apparently is not measuring up. also, looking at the firsts chapter and think the first chapter and I think Sjs could be the little kid at the very beginning? Meaning that he has grown up in he world of hunters and gates, giving some cool world building to how this is a whole generation of ppl growing up with gates and magic.

i was about to hit post when i realised you also asked why. ive already made multiple posts analysing the tsh charas or their relationships which i feel gets into the meat of it anyway so please peruse those tags for longer explanations but as a quick breakdown of my takes:

judy: i just find her so funny and refreshing throughout the whole book; she serves a great meta purpose in breaking the illusion of richard’s trustworthiness as a narrator; she’s actually one of the nicer people we meet relative to all the other assholes in richard’s life; her scenes speak to both her commonalities and differences with richard and i enjoy them a lot. also i love that she’s based on a real person who then did costuming for succession.

francis: do i even need to explain this… hes an icon. i love all the layers to francis (which we only even get to see bc him & richard are so #real worsties)- how he’s so dramatic and emotive but can compose himself at will, how hes both confrontational and cowardly, his random kindnesses and mean quips, his completely fucked sense of priorities at all times…. also his insane childhood & his self-made tragedy in the epilogues. enfant terrible!

i do also love richard for all that he’s a nightmare. hes suuuuuch a mess wrapped within an I Am Normal package #tarttcore. love the way he teeters between reckless self-destruction and “umm you guys are weird” judgment. his self-censorship and revisionist tendencies as a narrator. his outsider role and his actual desperate liking of his murderous rich friends who do not particularly care about him. hes literally 19…. he should have been in the club….

henry & camilla are both interesting but henry is like The Statue and camilla is The Shadow in the sense that theyre both not fully realised ppl bc of richard’s pov/pedestal. henry is kind of the mvp of tsh of course, greattttt lines, compelling character, drives the action, but ultimately hard to crack as a complete person and full of hubris that annoys me. i respect that he gave us hot takes and drama the whole way through. camilla i enjoy the pieces of- beef with judy, french post murder fever, mysterious phone calls, entanglements- but lbr she is the least characterised individual in the book and thus hard to connect to outside of fanon. i still like her tho i esp enjoy how unbothered she is living her own side stories. and i just know she suffered incalculable martyrdom running amongst those men.

charles is more of a real person to richard than the above and he compels me also. such a jarring (if telegraphed) shift from part i to part ii. in a way his descent into darkness humanises him the most bc at least hes torn up about the whole murder business in the first place! but by god his relationships are fucked.

bunny is at best funny. but hes just like. a conservative asshole whos not even smart enough for the course he nepo-babied his way into. and then julian has fun literature class bits and is admittedly also funny (he is so not willing to get dragged into the drama it’s comical) but is just a nefarious elitist weirdo. they get nothing from me.

Tim Burton has racist characters? The only closest thing is Bianca from Wednesday, but, like, so???? As a black person, I got bullied by mainly black ppl. I don't see why this matters so much. Plus, Wednesday has beef with almost every character in the show x3 The nicest she was to anyone was probably Uncle Fester. Finally, Bianca does end up having a character arc where she ends up becoming a little nicer to Wednesday.

The only other thing I can think of is a 2016 interview where Tim Burton didn't care for the exploitation of black ppl in media. He even said, "I didn't go like, ok, there should be more white people in movies." He literally says that wasn't what he was saying. Plus, black ppl today still get exploited. Look at when Disney released a teaser for The Little Mermaid remake. They purposely used a black person as Ariel bc it would spark controversy, not bc they care about diversity.

I mean, this is the same vein of reasoning when ppl get upset at Viv having POC characters in Hell or they "don't look like" they're POC. I don't see the problem of making those kinds of ppl antagonists. It'd be one thing if that's all the bad guys are and the good ones are white, a lá that shitty Heathers TV show that never saw the light of day.

And, granted, I know what I'm saying is an unpopular opinion. But I think it's incredibly weird to get defensive about POC being antagonists. It gives off the feeling that only white ppl should be the villains, which is racist despite what others may say xP

it was a the start of a new semester i guess and i was visiting another friends building and yuuta was essentially the main teacher / r.a. it was some kind of arts building and they got pr for makeup that i was checking out

yuuta was being nice and basically offered to give it to me but i’d have to steal it from a rlly strict teacher essentially which was a weird ass b plot.

anyways, for whatever reason - i last minute for transferred to yuutas classes and dorm building? and he also insisted i stay in the dorm???? and as he was like . an authority he also made me sleep in the same bed as him??? he was extremely clingy and touchy and picked my pjs it was nuts. i was kinda scared to say no bc he took it so personally

there was like a whole timeskip where my beloved irl childhood friends had a class w me in the dorm in the following semester and it was like a nice reminder of my childhood. supposedly one of them wanted to stay and sleep in the same bed w me and i was weirdly uncomfortable with it 😭 i dont rlly like to sleep in the same bed as other ppl generally

but i was like i’d rather just sleep in the same bed as just yuuta since she was being so persistent to me. and i basically told yuuta that when i got back from rejecting her and he was WEIRDLY proud of me. it got very sexual after that and it was TMI ?! a wet dream based on what i feel now shfjfjsj??

Tbh I’m not even a Logan fan but what you’re saying about the crashes I think has set the final bar for me that I’m not gonna bother watching lol. Like I was already mad at so many critical points of last season being excluded, Franco being excluded and then hearing how they basically turned the whole series into the Horner apologist show…yeah, nah. I’ll just wait for the good clips to come to tumblr. This season had so much potential to revive DTS from the dead cause in all honesty, it’s been pretty slack since like season 4 or 5

i have SO MUCH to say bc i have been a long defender of dts. i got into the sport through dts and i think it does well to introduce new people to the sport, even if it's not loved my more veteran fans. and the show has been accused of creating false narratives but i've never really felt like that was true until this year.

for example, in season 5 i think, i remember seeing a complaint that a scene with lando and daniel running through a car park late for a meeting was from [x] race, but the show made it seem like it was at [y] race. this is technically creating a false narrative, but it's unimportant. if the episode is focusing on the monaco race and netflix squeezes in a funny moment from monza WHO CARES. they're putting together a fun episode and there's no harm in it in those cases.

HOWEVER. episode 3 they're setting up this redemption arc for george and they start focusing on spa and i'm like. oh no. spa. what a high and low of winning and then getting disqualified. but then they just ???? don't mention the disqualification at all??? they use that "win" as narrative to cement george as the #1 driver next year. and that, to me, is really alarming lying to the viewer.

as a dts fan i wasn't like, upset to find out xyz was cut from the season or that like, the clip of daniel looking mad after the baku crash was actually from a different race. i would super confused to get into dts from this season only to learn that i was lied to about a race winner. that seems like too big of a yoink and twist for narrative purposes.

i know your ask was about logan i'm sorry but to watch that episode and then next episode see logans crashes misrepresented was like GEEZ and i'm gonna be biased with logan. that should be obvious. but in that case it simply feels lazy. you don't need to misrepresent logan's career to get the point across. james wanted to drop logan early, obviously. if you didn't have enough examples early in the year you can take from last year, THAT'D be more honest. clearly james was trying to find someone else since way before most of logan's 2025 crashes.

i also have strong feelings abt the williams storyline being cut which like. i KNOW they only have so many storylines they can tell. but alex crashes and gets logan's car in australia AND its his birthday??? rumors of driver-TP beef stretching the whole season until he gets dropped. franco colapinto is tv DREAM material. i know dts has chronically ignored williams but this story was too fucking juicy to ignore IN MY OPINION.

(tbh i think there ppl behind the scenes pointing netflix in the direction THEY want. so rb wants a sympathetic show of christian, they don't want to get into the checo shitshow (apparently, i havent gotten that far yet), maybe williams have an interest in not having their dirtiest laundry aired. who's to say that's my impression of what ive seen so far :)

I recently got into ATLA again and the fandom is so strange I never expected a show as heartfelt as this to have so much beef inside its fanbase. I'm used to fandom toxicity and discourse- it's a part of every fandom, but a lot if stuff here just seems like ppl making up issues to get mad at. I rly feel like I'm in a diff world bc I loved this show and watched it so many times over the years ever since I was a preteen and never in my life would I have expecteded Aang of all characters to be so hated. Ppl calling him a niceguy incel misogynist is like?? Did we watch the same show ??? He's just a lil guy. I can't believe ppl hate him. It's very disorienting as someone who loved this series for years but never engaged or knew what the fandom was like till now. Huge whiplash!

Oh yeah this fandom is insane lmao. It’s true that every fandom has people like this in it, but some fandoms take toxicity to a new level. I’d say ATLA and Stranger Things are probably the worst fandoms I’ve ever been in lol. That’s why I filter tags on here.
